Can you help identify my pinstripe color?

Post by sullivs »

Can anyone help me find what the paint color name, or identification information, is for my pinstripes? My Silver R100 of 1984 vintage is being repainted. But the painter won't tackle the hand-painted pinstripes, which are dark blue. I've seen models out there with both light and dark blue stripes. My local dealer says they have no information to help me.

I found a guy that does pinstriping, and he is sure he can match both the color and application. However, I want to see if I can help by finding the correct color, or even the paint itself.

There is a sticker under the seat that says "Color 559". I understand that this is the color scheme, and not specifically the colors themselves. My colors are the common silver/dark blue pinstripes I've seen on a thousand BMW's. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

559 is Polaris (silver) and Mittel blue 126

look, If he is a half decent pinstriper he will easily match the colour by eye, so believe in his abilities and skill or go find yourself another stripper.. Those bmw codes and info mean jack shit to someone that is going to mix up a very small amount of paint for a few feet of linework, I mix everything by eye, have done of years, no complaints yet.
Also you are not going to pinstripe in a purpose spraying paint, you want a good thick enamel with some guts to it, as you only go over the pinstripe once with the brush, its not like thin spraying paint where you lay down multiple coats to build up the colour.

Best of luck and btw its not rocket science, so keep it simple :)

Thanks much for all the information. The guy doing the pinstripes is pretty talented, so I trust his skills. I'll let you know how it all goes.
