What I find interesting about this article is that, despite all the hype and claims of 'massive' improvements, the output measured on the dyno is actually marginally less than the rated output when the bike left the factory.

Hmmm

Factory rating was at the flywheel. My R75 is similar--BMW says 50 hp but I'll bet it's between 35 and 40 at the rear tire.
Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world.

Back when these bikes were new, some of the US road tests included a dyno chart at the rear wheel. I just checked one for an R80/7 and it made 37.1 HP

A 70 BHP RS will show around 55Bhp on a rear wheel Dyno, Shaft drive involves real losses in Power and I guess BMW tested on a bare engine, no alternator or starter, with the addition of some magic powder to get to headline figure of 70 Bhp

Most, if not all, vehicle manufacturers quote engine output at the flywheel.
