'58 R69 versus '65 R69S

Post by r67boxer »

Realizing that this is an open ended question (probably the reason no one has responded to my query in several of the other forums) but, when it comes to value, which is more desirable? Less than 3K R69's were made and over 11K of the R69S. Although the S model has more power shouldn't rarity come into play, assuming both are in about the same condition? Your thoughts would be appreciated and I promise not to drag this discussion out.

I think this comes down to each individual buyer. More power could mean more issues with stress on the system. More S models built might mean there's a slightly bigger market for replacement parts (unique ones for the S). I doubt most could tell the difference between the two periods...I'm not sure I could. Plus I doubt one could realize any additional "profit" over time when/if the bike is sold.

I hadn't thought about the potential for more wear and tear on the S model's components. It really does seem like it comes down to personal preference. I'm leaning towards the R69 for its rarity.

Good question here about rarity vs specs. In general, for collector vehicles less than 10k made is quite rare, so that alone would give the plain R69 an edge in my book.

Thanks everyone for their input. I would agree that rarity trumps specs and have decided to keep the '58.
