Wheel bearing cover gasket (R50/5)

Post by r67boxer »

Hello all. I've run into a problem sourcing the front and rear wheel bearing cover gasket for a R50/5. I ordered two from a local BMW Motorrad dealer; see first image below. As you can see in the second image it doesn't fit. The third image shows the EnDuraLast version (which I have now ordered from EME in the US). The part numbers are the same. Has anyone else had this issue?

Completely different, appearance and hole position.

MaxBMW also has the EME version.

www.motorworks.co.uk has the other version. https://www.motorworks.co.uk/wheel-bear ... 430-1.html

www.motobins has...

I just checked Meyers and their 0430 is the same as one I got from BMW. The other number ending in 2523 shows the EME version and states that its for R60/6, not a /5.

So where is the problem? Are the hole centers not symmetric on the wheel or on the gasket?

The problem is that the holes do not line up when I installed the round gasket (as you can see in the second image). This is what I received from a BMW dealer with the correct part number. I have now ordered from EME. The bike currently has the EME type gasket but they are not in good condition.

I'm just trying to see what the problem is. If the holes in the bearing cover are precisely 72 degrees apart, then if the gasket doesn't fit, that means that the holes in the gasket are not exactly 72 degrees center-to-center.

Sorry 'bout that Kurt. I misunderstood what you were asking. I'm going to look for a protractor ..... and will report back.

I used the image of the Enduralast part which is flat and used a bit of a drawing program to essentially show that all of those 5 holes are equidistant apart. I couldn't do that on other things because they were not straight-on shots. But I'll be curious to see how the holes come out on the actual wheel.

I couldn't find a protractor so I measured distance b/w the holes. The round gasket holes were either 39mm apart or 42mm while the actual bearing cover was 41mm b/w all holes.
