Normal or excessive blowby from dipstick?

Post by kridlokk »

Hello guys.
I'm just wondering if this much blowby from dipstick is normal or exessive for these engines?

I've never done that, but that's a massive hole in the system with the dipstick removed. Air is going to find the easiest way out. Your best test is to do an actual compression test or leak down test.

In some manual, it says to not run the engine with the dip stick out. I read that after I did it.

It's normal. A boxer engine has a huge amount of crankcase compression as both piston come to BDC together. On the rare occasion I've forgotten to screw in the dipstick, the noise it makes on start up wouldn't let you ride off in that state.

Did that once on the /7. Do it once and one will never do it again!

The oil running down your right leg might be a bit of a clue as well :D
