When I did my coast-to-coast ride I wore a Kilimanjaro and in some ways it is a better riding jacket, with all of its pockets and vents and it's hard armor but in reality it's just as hot as wearing leather,

The older Kilimanjaros are a great jacket, waterproof, but not breathable. I think you'd find the Gortex type materials more comfortable in the heat. First gear used to make a Kilimanjaro in leather. That was quite the coat! I really enjoy all the pockets and features of my old Kilimanjaro though. It's like touring with a file cabinet!
