That was all ScotchBrite, and the paint is applied to a "thick wash." My fingertips were sore for a while after--glad (in this circumstance) that I had just the one disc.

But what about the steel bits? After repair of the frame and centerstand, I had a Kombifull of BMW steel and decrusted hubs to take to the powdercoater:



In a reasonable amount of time I got them back:



The frame and subframe were reunited:



And the rest got to hang out on the Westy bed for a while:

More than gspd would use. Filling AND covering, maybe burnished mit the ScotchBrite just a touch when dry.

But a little PC action, rim BLING-a-thon and a box from Buchanon's gets me to here, building it Schwinn-style:



Into the truing stand:



and after a couple tension/true sessions:



They're almost ready for prime time. As the bearings looked like this:



New bearings were needed all around. Pressing in:



And checking adjustment:



Still waiting for tires.

But what about the colored bits? First I had to clean out the inside of the tank as there was a dent in it, the fixing of which would destroy the liner which itself was questionable. Six gallons of vinegar to the rescue! Tank interior before:

The vinegar and the sloughed off liner:



A kombifull of colored bits off to the painter, bicycle there to provide a color reference:



And shiny painted bits back from the painter:

Many layers of clear, wetsanded mit 2500 paper per the painter. He mostly paints HD, so he's all about the shiny stuff. Even has the "Bar and Shield" cast into the front step of his shop.
