Where do I buy a coil ?

From my 3/85 R80 twin tower coil.
Bosch 0 221 500 200 1.25 Ohms
Recently replaced with Bosch 0 221 500 203 1.25 Ohms
From EME. Other twin pole coils may not be suitable
as they are are in the range 2.5 - 3.0 Ohms.
Ok for earlier models.

Motoelect seems to have more to say about matching coils than UME.

And if he is correct and only the new 0.7 ohm BMW coils are available then with the matching black box you are up for around $250-.

And you still have a thirty year old hall sensor and set of bob weights.

Which makes the Boyer Micro power, which replaces the lot, look attractive at less than $200-

Ditto on this guy. I just put a Dyna coil(brown) on my R65. AU$125.00 posted. enough spark now to jumpstart a corpse.

sibbo, that quote is crazy. If you are in a hurry, you might try one of the coils mentioned off of a parts bike of some brand. Otherwise I would get the correct coil. I don't know where you are, but in the worst case you can get them from the US and ship them.

Duane, he's talking about the dual output coils used on the later bikes, not the twin coils on the 1970's BMWs. Sometimes referred to as the "Crack-o-Matics" I believe... That being said, wasn't there a Harley part mentioned here as a replacement?

My problem ,gentlemen ,is that I'm new to the bike as I've only had it 6 months and have never owned a twin ,let alone a BMW before .I don't know what is standard in my set up so I'm taking her to the local BeeM guru (She'llbe recommended )I'll get him to supply the right bits and explain the standard versus non standard components .It's going to cost but such is life . He has a wide variety of aftermaket and s/h bits available as well as genuine.

After this I may know enough to do my own next time .

Since then I've added 8k trouble free miles to this bike. I think they were a bit larger than original equipment, but fit well under the tank.

Part number F3000-24358 can be found today for approx. $30. each

They're a popular replacement those bosch blues but there's a couple of things to be aware of.

The ones on your points bike have too many ohms for the later electronic ignition.
The flimsy oem brackets are likely to crack with the excess weight. Bolster with something.
There are cheap knock offs of the bosch blues about. Beware. I have no idea if the cheap ones are any good or otherwise, just sayin'.

I took her to my local guru the other day ,a bit of testing to do .It may be the coils but maybe not .The ones she's running are a couple of Japanese twin outlets ,apparently a fairly normal option after the twin plug conversion .I'll post again when the trouble is located .
