Kinematic shift lever

Post by Deleted User 72 »

1977 R100RS

I have bought a used tranny for the above bike that has the short kinematic shift lever with the ball joint. Can I install my non kinematic shift lever from the original on the "new " tranny? In other words are the internals the same on these two trannys? The "new" tranny is allegedly from a 1978 R100S. The reason I ask is that the kinematic lever is at a significantly different angle than the original 1977 lever.

I have not done that but was told that the shifters are interchaingable.

Yes. I've swapped them both ways.

Your kinematic shift lever probably has the old style non adjustable link between the foot shift lever and the lever fitted to the transmission. In case you don't know the new style link is adjustable. It's a bit spendy, but what's the cost compared to a comfortable left foot?

Of course you could put a bend in your old link to shorten it, if that goes the right direction for you. But now that you know that the kinematic and non-kinematic shift levers interchange, I guess your problem is solved anyhow.

Thanks all!

I suspected that was the case, but a question here is less frustrating than trying the switch and finding otherwise.

That might be insufficient Randy. If you remember he was at one of the rallies here on a S bike. So if accuracy in a moniker is a thing to aspire to then we might have to moniker him RSS/5. Doesn't quite roll off the tongue though.

Ken, you been readin' my mind agin? RS/S is what I call my frankenbike. And if RSS/5 don't roll, how 'bout RS/S GS /5?

Please God, help me. I have a disease for which there is no known acceptable cure. Also, please make my GS stop eating starters. Its not good for my diet, it makes me sick to my stomach.
