I have been waiting three weeks for bing carb jets, needles and washers... Is it because they just aren't in stock anymore in the dealerships or because recent storms for BIng Distributors... it has made it hard to put my bike together and ride in early summer.
Our old bikes are nice but man things have change. just getting the basics to keep our girls running smooth takes more steps and now causing us to think further in advance and forsing us to spend big $$$ for routine part replacements that may fault over the next years of ownership.

I always brake in corners and think how I am going to get home if I really mess up. When I get home, I wished that I hadn't used my brakes and should have ridden a bit further.

I keep holding on the the idea that If I support the dealership that they themselves will somehow help me. You know shop locally for the sake of the community. Who would have thought they didnt want us anymore as long term customers with some brand loyalty left.
Regrettably, I'll be ordering on-line from now on for this bike with even less reasons to come in to see new bikes or building relationships.

There were some jets that were backordered for my R25/2, so the system can be slow from time to time. That was through Bing.

Got everything to completely rebuild my Bings from Motobins in a week.
That included more than regular rebuild items. (needles, needle jets, shaft+screws, mixture screw).

Some dealers are OK
When I'm on vacation in Boise Idaho I will often order a part or two through Big Twin Cycles (not a Harley dealer). Almost always I'll get the part in a week. They do stock some rudimentary parts such as fork seals, carb diaphragms and such. So I'm sure they won't have things like carb needles, jets, etc.
Of course if BMW North America, or wherever Big Twin gets their parts, doesn't have what I want in stock, then I suspect I'd be screwed or have to wait a long time. But it hasn't happened so far.
As for attitude, the personnel at Big Twin are airhead friendly, if not airhead enthusiastic. They will actually wrench on an airhead and the last I heard they have an airhead mechanic who is knowledgeable. I have yet to see a used airhead on the floor for sale. The floor is full of current BMW models, Ducatis, and Triumphs. I reckon that "spending" floor space on an inexpensive used airhead isn't the best way to get a good return on costly floor space.
From what I hear though, Big Twin is a hell of a lot better place than most BMW dealerships. And the "formula" could change at any time if a new manager takes the reins.
As for BMW A.G. where else can you get parts at all for a 30+ year old motorcycle. And I appreciate their Mobile Tradition effort (Did I get the name right?). Of course a cynical view would be that the powers that be at BMW regard it as a business tactic to attract customers on the basis of the "legendary" BMW quality. But if it's a good idea for BMW, why isn't it also a good idea for some other manufacturers?
But having said all of that, there's no substitute for stocking most of your own spares, especially if you really really need your Beemer, and you need it now. And naturally(?) the best spare of all is another bike, ready to go in case the other one breaks.
