rpm idle issues
rpm idle issues
1975 R75/6 I have a issue with rpm not coming down normally when releasing the throttle . It seems that the cable on the right side hangs up. In addition to that there is another that i have no idea what is causing it. Sitting at a stop the rpm will run up to 3000 or so and stay for quite sometime then go back to fairly normal idle . this occurs without me giving any throttle at all. It does look like the levers on either carb has moved from idle position, I need some expert input here Thanks Frank in Florida

Re: rpm idle issues
First step is to know if it is ignition, or fuel. Testing the ATU takes about 5 seconds. Go to my website for info.
Ask the Indians what happens when you don't control immigration.
Re: rpm idle issues
I recently replaced the return springs on the advance sprayed it with brake cleaner. I,ll check it later today thanks for your response Frank
Re: rpm idle issues
Pull it off and clean it well, the inside of the tube and where it slides in the camshaft. The original grease has probably long since hardened or disappeared completely. There is a special Bosch grease for lubing the advance mechanism available from these guys: http://secure.capitalcycle.com/ADVANCE- ... fo/FT1V26/mefrank11 wrote:I recently replaced the return springs on the advance sprayed it with brake cleaner. Re: rpm idle issues
What you describe is sometimes a symptom of a very lean idle mixture. Either by the screw setting or debris in the idle circuit somewhere.

Re: rpm idle issues
Is there really special grease for this, or just a special tube with grease in it so Bosch can increase their bottom line. Wouldn't be the first time a company did that.Tim Shepherd wrote:Pull it off and clean it well, the inside of the tube and where it slides in the camshaft. Re: rpm idle issues
I have never tried the Bosch grease but I know their point rubbing block grease is something different and seems to last pretty well. I have only used regular wheel bearing grease inside the advance and it seems to harden up and stick in about a year.Jeff in W.C. wrote:

PS: I don't have points anymore....... so I guese I'm pointless.
Edit: George is right about carb settings. It's now pretty warm in Florida and the adjustments you made in the spring may be out a tich.

I've got to agree. I've maladjusted my R100 many a time with the same result

Re: rpm idle issues
Any changes if you move the bars? Maybe re-routing or free play adjustment required?
Cheers, Steve
