Oil filter - not starting an oil thread

Just picked up a cheap parts bike or possible clean and resell - 1982 R100
Hasn't run for 16 years, but was put away with oil in cylinders and drained carbs etc.

Just pulled the oil filter. PO was using a Crosland 692 straight non cooler filter. Filter is metal sheathed rather than usual paper.

PO did have a paper gasket on cover and the big O-ring (but the shim on the wrong side, between cover and O-ring )

But, and this was my question, there were no rubber rings on either end of the filter. (nothing on the stub on the inside, as in the old days when the rubber rings were loose) There was also a new filter in a box in the tool kit, also with no rubber rings, just the flat metal ends.

So has anyone used this filter? Can't see how it would seal at all.

Once I put a new OEM filter in and fresh oil will be interesting to see how motor sounds.

I'm pretty sure that is an old filter ment for /5 and /6 with the bolt on cover.

Don't reuse it (you already knew that).

Put away for 16 years means there ARE rubber parts to replace.
At the very least and other than tires, the carb diaphragms are not to be trusted.
Look inside the headlight shell CAREFULLY...if the bike was stored in a garage or barn, wasps like to build nests inside there; they also like under the gas tank. They might have gotten inside the front cover, too.
The wasps in South Carolina will take over a bike in less than 2 years...do you have many such insects in BC?

Thanks for responses. Have ditched the Crosland filters. All clear under the front cover. Good idea to check headlight and under the tank though. We do get the wasps that get in every little hole. Haven't seen it so much on bikes though.
PO (original owner) was a bit ham fisted. Have to take off the final drive and helicoil the drive shaft drain plug.
I expect the diaphragms will be marginal. Yes, although the tires were nearly new, the cracking on the sidewalls is quite noticeable and indicates their 16 years in hibernation.
