Tripple Spark

Post by Garnet »

I've just been surfin round Silent Hektic's site and see they are offering a multiple spark system in both single and twin plug format. Here is thier explaination http://www.silent-hektik.com/Lex_Trip.htm which is quite funny when you run it through BableFish: http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_ur ... =Translate

This theory has been around for many years, mainly promoted in the auto side by MSD. Anyone ever try it on an Airhead? Could it replace twin plugs? Can pigs realy fly? :?

On an airhead ? No.
However, I have an MSD system as stock on my 1992 Ford F250.

The question to ask will be, how's the idle and low RPM performance of your bike ?
This will be where a multiple spark system will be an advantage.
If there are no problems there ... there will be no point in investing in such a system.
Care and tuning of a stock or mildly modified BMW should negate any consideration or "need" of such a system ...
Approaching 5k and above – the multiple spark systems will be moot.

Multiple spark was originally designed for high performance applications
where idle and low rpm performance was compromised
by cam profiles, high compression, and the usual high RPM HP goals of drag racing.
Subsequently, as per the Ford, multiple spark was used
to satisfy both Govt. regulations and consumer performance expectations ...
Neither scenario translates well to a stock or mild modified airhead. IMNSHO.

A better or cheaper alternative to dual plugging and detonation ... I think not.
Rather, the usual HP advertising hype: Good when needed, but most do not need it !
Again – IMNSHO.

I run the single spark SH on my R90S (left) and the later triple spark on my R80G/S (right):

Both engines are thoroughly modified.

Both ignition systems work very well.

I don't think you can get a single spark system from SH anymore, can you?

The more significant piece of engineering from SH is their dual plug coil. It gives each plug voltage of identical polarity.

I don't see a single spark option either.

After haveing some troubles with a typical dual polarity coil, I can see the value in that.

What rear shocks are on the R90S?
