With the accessories/upgrades, if one wants a bike like that, and wants those upgrades, it probably isn't too much. I've found that buying a beater and trying to fix it up is more expensive than buying a fine example that someone has already done most of what you would have to do.

But that's not the way the market normally works - you never get what the upgrades cost you. In the biz, we always stripped off all accessories. Not only do they not bring any value, they actually discourage buyers. Just how many people would want that exact combination of stuff? Very few. Then sell the accessories off to other customers and be a bit ahead that way.

I figured it might be alittle tough to sell my bike without a seat, a top triple clamp, or an exhaust system . . . among many other "accessories" I installed.

Duane's point is a good one though, especially for a shop. If you have the stock replacements, you always make more money selling the upgrades individually. Of course, for an individual, you also have to weigh all the trouble of selling those other parts, but for a shop, you're already in the retail business, so it makes even more sense (although you would still have to consider the labor of trading out the parts).
