I suppose this thread had run its course, so there was nothing lost in the derailing -
It has been a great Christmas - My mom and my sister just left and Colleen, both boys and one girlfriend are watching a chick flick in the living room, so I checked in here.
Just to properly wrap up the thread, not that it has anything to do with what side of the road Rob drove home on...
It all went together well. Started, ran, shifted, and so forth. Too cold for a proper test. I think I may have oild the back drum as it didn't seem to wanna stop me.
Happy Holidays to all.
Brad

Re: Rear Main Seal
Does it matter how thick that seal installation tool is? Say, 1/4" or 5/16"? I think my friend out in the machine shop can whip me up one out of food grade ('cause that's all they have around here) plastic/delron, whatever that stuff is.
Does the correct installation depth vary? I like the idea of making the tool over sized and stepped down to the 100 mm diameter, if I can get that dimension.
So far none of my seals in that area have started leaking, and I have left them undisturbed. But it's cool to get new tools anyway.

Re: Rear Main Seal
My impression was that it did matter - but I didn't measure it and the book just says to note where it was. I chickened out and I should not have. I think it is easily as doable as the rest of the project was.enigmaT120 wrote:Does it matter how thick that seal installation tool is? Say, 1/4" or 5/16"? I was reminded several time to be very careful pulling the old seal. You can't pry against the drive shaft as that will push it forward dropping out a pin on one of the main bearings.
