I have recently gone through this with a Norton Commando project and I have decided to run 100/90X19 tires on WM3's front and rear (narrow tire, wide rim = more useable tire), the best handling bike I have ever ridden was a 1973 850 Norton with 4.10 X 19's front and back! Although the /5 with stock-size Avon Roadriders is right-up-there (stable and predictable are GOOD things!).

I'm no great rider but sometimes I go riding with people who have tires that are over two times as wide as mine. Sometimes I can barely keep up but I seldom lose tire grip. I think you have to be really capable to need wider tires. Capable and pushing it. Maybe brave too.
The wider (stock) brace is a nice part. Mine is stainless and that's worth something.

I had a really good race down a mountain one day with three cyclists, and me on my RS.Chuey wrote:I'm no great rider but sometimes I go riding with people who have tires that are over two times as wide as mine. At the bottom of the mountain, I said to the cyclists, "shit, your tyres hang on alright"
Later that day, when the sports bike rider got to the bottom, he looked at my tyres and said, "shit, those tyeres hang on alright"

I am not sure I understand. On the first page someone mentioned the 100/90 19 tire was the stock size for my bike. I did not think I was going bigger on the front but staying stock.
I guess I ordered the wrong tire? I guess what I am saying is that I thought the advice was to stay stock, which I am taking that advice. Seth advised a Spitfire tire so I ordered one. Did I screw the pooch?

The stock size for your bike is 3.25" x 19" front and 4.00" x 18" rear. S11s are not available in the proper size...they are only available in metric sizes. Metric to inch conversions will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer...with some, a 100/90 is close to a 3.25" ...others the 90/90 is closer. BUT...like I keep saying...there is more to it than fitting it under your fender. Your rim size should be within the "approved rim sizes" for whatever tire you choose...the one you chose is not.

Okedoke. I guess I will have to send it back. Thanks for the info. So I should get a 90/90 by 19. Will do.

Something I haven't mentioned is that the cast "snowflake" front wheels used from 1978 on are generally 2.15" x 19" ...the stock tire sizes were the same, but the tire profile was slightly wider due to the wider rim. That's why the /7 fender mount is wider than the one on the original /6.

No problem, just changed the order to a 90/90 by 19 Bridgestone spitfire. Now if I can just cancel the tube. It is a shame as the 100/90 was about 14 bucks cheaper. But I am sure I will tell it in the ride based on the comments above. I hopefully caught the places before they shipped.
Sweet, got the orders cx. Now I will have a Bridgestone tire 90/90 by 19 coming in with a tube.
