Hi,
just got me a r850r 1997. Ran along the highway when it lost power. Have diagnosed it down to being the left side not running. Changed spark plugs and checked that there is sparks, checked the injector to see that fuel is coming when turning the key. It will start but runs only on the right side.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks!

took out the right side injector and squirtied start gas into the hole. it reved up. guess that indicates that eveything but fuel supply is in order..

Re: Left side dead
You are correct, and that's good because if you had fuel and spark at the right time on a dead cylinder, then you would have some much bigger mechanical problem.
Does the plug into your FI have it's little paperclip-like clip on it? If not, the plug can look plugged in but will not be in far enough and will not make contact. With only one side having a problem it's virtually always a plugged injector or a wiring problem, and a plugged injector will usually still run some, just poorly. I've never heard of the computer failing on only one side, so worst case is probably a dead injector.

thx Major,
I'll try crossshifting the injectors today. Allready ordered a new one, but it takes time from England.
I just bought this bike cause I found a piece of metal in the gearoil on the /6. Runs a week.....
Now the seller is very sorry, he had 75 000 Km on the bike without trouble.. today he said I can borrow his brothers old K75 till I get this sorted out. Cool guy after all eh?

Yup, and the K75 is pretty hard to kill.hal wrote:thx Major,

Re: Left side dead
Early K-bikes have a very different feel - much more top-heavy, and kind of an electric motor feel to the power band. They're very practical engines, but a bit lacking in "soul."
Okay a whole lot lacking in soul.
The K75S and the K100RS are very nice looking bikes though.

Have changed fuel filter and plugs. Changed RHS fuel injector and presto!! Bike runs. Went for a ride and remember again what's in all about. The K75 I've been running was really no fun at all. Made my back hurt and was hard cornering. Should I ever have a K-bike it would higher bars first of all.

Must have been a K75S. I can't handle that position either, but they are certainly pretty. The "standard" K75 has much more reasonable bars.hal wrote:Have changed fuel filter and plugs. Agree it must have been a good looking bike in its prime.. this one was pretty battered.. But still nice of the guy to lend it to me!
