Riding in OZ
Let's say one wanted to visit Oz and do some riding. It's a big country so lets say you had 3 weeks. What would be the best ride?
Arguments are never what they're about.

Road touring, dual purpose, outback desert? What would the mix be?
Hiring, buying/selling/importing the bike?
Time of year?

Re: Riding in OZ
Would like to go when it's cold up here, but not roasting down there. Would Nov or Feb be super hot. Some beach and surfing would be nice. What areas have white sand warm water?SteveD wrote:I guess a combo of road and dual sport. Though if there are lots of good twisty roads, I guess a road trip might simplify. It's such a large area. I guess I just need to come up with a plan that gets me a feel for at least part of the country. There are considerations like travel health insurance. The policy I have now only covers me for 30 days.Road touring, dual purpose, outback desert? What would the mix be?
I don't think I'd import a machine. Are there dealers that will buy back after a trip?[/i]Hiring, buying/selling/importing the bike?

Again: it's such a vast area!

Ride right round the joint in three weeks and pick the bugs outa yer shit eaten grin when yer get back on the plane.
Surfing, white sand.......bottom half of Aus. That's a freakin lot of beaches.
It is coldish in the southern half of Aus from April to October generally speaking, but a good time to do the top half.
November to March is very humid/hot in the top half.
The bottom half is best March, April, May and September, October, November.
N.b. It's actually really good here anywhere, any time.
Should I put the kettle on?

Yeah, March/April or November/December.
Buy something in Melbourne. Ride it to Brisbane. Or vice versa. Fly in, fly out.
Give us enough notice, we'll let you shout the beer at an Oz Boxerwork rally, in the Snowy Mountains somewhere.
Maybe some time on google maps...
You could do a Sydney/Brisbane/Darwin/Alice Springs/Adelaide/Great Ocean Road/Melbourne/Vic Alps (1500ms) Victoria north east/Snowy Mountains/Dubbo/Nimbin/Byron Bay/Sydney in 3 weeks but you'd need a bloody good rest when you got home.
Best to stick to eastern side Melbourne to Brisbane, mountains and beaches. Accom is dirt cheap and plentiful in Feb after the school holidays. Weather is a lottery whenever you're here, but the summer months can be HOT! Maybe start north, head south, though it's still hot. You got mesh gear?

Re: Riding in OZ
Just remember ZM -
their up = our down,
their left = our right,
their spring = our fall,
their north = our south,
It's like you have to multiply everything by -1.
And try not to laugh when they say it gets cold.
They seem a happy lot so maybe it's the rest of us that are upside-down.

I've spent most of my money on women, motorcycles, and beer.
The rest of it I just wasted.
The rest of it I just wasted.
