Yep, heard it bellow again today. Twice! I rolled it out to work on it, and the younger boy asked,

"Daddy, does it run?"

"Well, son, let me show you."

"VARROOMM!!"

Later, while I was filling the various drivetrain bits that get gear oil, my neighbor came over to yak a bit.

"Boy, it's looking really close. Does it run?"

"Funny you should ask."

"VARROOMM!"

I learned that this same neighbor had sold his old Yamaha 850 Triple. He'd mentioned it before, like this: "I've got this old Yamaha in the garage...." Usually, when someone says that about a VW they end up giving it to us and I was worried that I'd end up with a Yamaha to revive. Dodged that one!

So today I was getting lubricant where it goes. No pix of that. But I also got the clutch cable installed. I'd heard tales of the pivot pin backing out in my vintage of bike, causing an ear on the back of the trans to crack, so I figured I'd try a bolt in that space. I'd feel better about this whole procedure if I'd been able to drop the bolt in from above, but the trans output is in the way. What I found was a M8 X 60mm bolt with a full 8mm unthreaded shank and a couple locknuts:

I still have a dust cover coming, so I'll have to take it apart again when that arrives. I'll probably add a spring washer between the ears when I do so, if I stick with this plan. Clutch adjustment was almost perfect just throwing it all together. I took out a wee spot of freeplay and I'm very happy with the result.

And yes, I really wanna take out that casting part line and polish that clutch arm. Trying......to.....leave....it.....the....heck.....alone.......

Along with that dust cover, the mufflers are coming! Tiny chance I'll ride it next weekend, more likely the weekend after.

Yeah, not much done today. Rode the mountain bike in the morning, hiked mit the fam later and then fixed the string trimmer and mowed the lawn. When I had a few minutes in the sun I got the eyelids on the instruments:

All day, all weekend in fact, loud pipes have been saving lives out there on 101. I'm sorely tempted to get my gear on and get out there. My little 750 can't be nearly as loud as all those Screaming Eagles, no?

Yeah, I think those loud pipes are saving the wrong lives.

I was thinking of you today as I was cleaning up the bodies of a pair of Koni shocks that are going onto the Black bike I call Paladin. It's the one that I was assembling as you were making headway on your bike. It has gold pinstripes so I had the springs for the shocks powdercoated gold. I haven't picked them up yet but they should pimp my ride very well, thank you.

The discipline you have, to do before and after pics of everything, is admirable. As I started with the grody shocks, I thought I should take pics and post them the way you do but I couldn't get myself to do it. The pics make a nice record of just how much of what you've done is what you've done. People take for granted stuff like we are doing without pictures. It's not that I'm driven by what other people think about what I've done but it is pretty neat sometimes.

Chuey......taking the ultimate risk with quiet pipes.....I guess I'll just have to stay alive by riding better :)

Took the screaming off the sporty and put them on my BMW and rode with my Harley buds, the BMW didn't seem to mind and all the bikes makin noise I couldn't hear it especally as I wore plugs

Recent English bike owers group ride at Hanson dam I pulled the BMW out and rode it forgot my ear plugs made to the dam but had no desire to go the route........

all things that effect ride is called............ exposer elements,

weather decide whats comfortable and keep you safe proper dress protects

Sound if a BMW has Mufflers that MFG style then the noise that effects you is wind noise that why lots of BMW and riders wear ear plugs on longer rides

Vibration; well BMW Airheads are smoothest in good condition so its reasonable with a good seat and good rider position

I never made it out of my driveway w/o my earplugs.
I would snap the chin bar into place, and that loud mechanical noise would remind me of my mistake quickly.
Then I would softly curse and be delayed another 5+ minutes getting out the driveway.

Forgetting earplugs (for me) on a bike is a lot like forgetting my glasses or car keys for driving the car. I don't get very far before I realize my mistake.

It's good to not curse too loudly if you forgot your earplugs. :)

While I was away for a couple days, the mufflers arrived:

Got them installed:

Hooked the battery up, and fired it up! Sounded great, but mostly 'tickety-tickety-tickety.' No vid of that today. Couple details to deal with, and I should be riding it this weekend. Taking Timo's advice, they got a thorough alcohol wipedown before any heat went through them.

The shadows in the foreground of the latest picture remind me of the little sticker families that people stick on the back window of their SUVs.

Do you guys have said stickers on the back of your buses? ;)

No. Those are freaky, especially when they name the children.
