Rear Brake Disc advice please

Post by Darryl Flynn »

Advice please.

I always thought that the rear disc on an 1980 RS should be machined flat yet this ad states otherwise.

My rear is exactly the same as this one on ebay and the rear pads have associated matching grooves so i am in the process of replacing it!

Can anyone help with this as to whether i am right or wrong?

Cheers

The disc is undeniably worn Darryl.

The seller does not give a thickness.

New is approx 5mm. Maximum wear limit is 4.5mm

The ridges on the disc are wear marks although they do not discount the disc as serviceable.
The visible lip on the outer edge of the disc is the best way to judge by photo if a thickness is not given.
The pictured disc doesn't appear to have a pronounced outer lip.

A bmw disc of approx 4.7-4.8mm can be found on german Ebay for Approx $100 (new......>$300)

Edit 5. I think. Check out the seller's other items. He has some good quality parts!

I imagine some catastrophic event has caused the seller to part out a good looking bike.

I have already bought some parts from him and he seems a nice guy. I think i will point out this wheel issue to him as he will almost certainly be unaware.

I missed it so WELL SPOTTED!!
