Crashed!

Post by Deleted User 62 »

Well... I crashed my R75/5 yesterday. It was my own fault, I was going too fast and went wide in a left turn and ended up in gravel, inches from jagged lava. The bike plowed into the roadside rocks and spun around and I ended up on the shoulder. Damage: headlight bucket dented, forks tweaked, mirror bent, valve cover holed, front and rear turn signals bent and a big new crease on the already dented left muffler. I'm OK, the helmet and jacket did their jobs, just a very sore collar bone, ribs and fingers on my left side today. It could have been a lot worse. There was a family of bow hunters just a few yards down the road and they helped me pick up the bike and hung around until I got it running again. The holed valve cover had been knocked back, breaking both of the small studs off and smashing the gasket, and it was pouring oil as we picked up the bike. I was able to bang the broken pieces back out enough to clear the valve train and flipped it upside down to minimize the leaks. It started and idled with no new noises, so I was able to ride it the 50 miles home, but I still ended up with an oily boot before too long. I had my Drift camera rolling, so I have video of the crash, but I haven't uploaded it yet. Some pics of the damage: Image Image Image

Ouch :!:
Glad you are alright Tim.
(Now you have a new project.)
I've spent most of my money on women, motorcycles, and beer.
The rest of it I just wasted.

I'll second that, tag. Really glad YOU were not seriously injured, Tim.
also BTDT. more than once.
Ain't it great that you can beat the bike back together and ride home?
About 150 of mostly BMW riders had a great time at the Knobbies rally in Morganton, NC this weekend. NOBODY got trashed on the 4 dirt rides! At least they didn't admit it...

Good to see you and the bike standing up! Best recoveries to you and the /5!
Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world.

Tim, that is terrible looking stuff in the background. I'm glad you didn't get smeared all over that lot.
Heal well, mate. Give the old girl a pat from me.
