DucatiPete has a few days off work coming up and suggested that it would be a Good Thing to do a run to The Walnuts next weekend. Jeff (ME109) and I concurred. The Walnuts is a very nice camping spot on the Omeo Highway about 15kms south of Mitta Mitta. Plenty of shade, a dunny and some bins -
And there are very nice shady flat spaces on the banks of the creek -
We also have the option of heading over Mt Wills to Angler's Rest camping reserve, on the banks of the upper Mitta Mitta River, just a short stagger from The Blue Duck Inn. This involves some dirt road, but also some superb sealed twisties. Here is a shot of the camping area. Some tables and dunnies here.
From here we have the option of heading home via Falls Creek or Mt Hotham, bushfires permitting. So, any other takers? It's more than a week away, so plenty of time to build up some brownie points with Significant Others, service the bike, pack everything you need and so on. Good luck with that.
I'll prolly head up on the Friday, maybe earlier depending on weather and mood/need to escape at the time.

Sounds great Charlie, ANZAC day is still two months away.
Is that area also known as Granite Flat? if so Ali and I noticed some great camp sites a couple of years ago in that area.
Please count me in.

I guess 'coz Charlie suggested I had something to do with the idea of heading up to the Walnuts for a night's camping/fishing/etc/etc I should confirm that I will in fact be riding up for this get-together.
So, yeah, I'm BIG KEEN on this ride-away... balls and all!
I haven't thought through the potential get-there options just yet but I'll probably attempt to head up Friday, all things going well(enough). (That being said I've still got a mate;s bike here awaiting some serious troubleshooting, which could need tackling at the most inopportune time, knowing past experiences... but, still, there's no question I will be up Mitta way next w/end!)
It'd be nice to o'night at the Walnuts then possibly get some miles under the tyres before celebrating another night out in the magnificent (if somewhat smoky) Victorian highlands.
Lookin' good...
(Good to hear that you may be able to get there Bob, but sad to hear neither Mal, nor Steve can make it. Though no surprises, considering the short-term notice etc. Next time guys, ie Wee Jasper. And looking forward to catching up with you, Mal, before the WJ run.)

pack the rods, boys...
Re: Oz Walnuts run Feb16/17
After the successful carriage of 12 Melbourne Bitter cans packed in ice to Geehi, I'm gonna do it again.
I am surely looking forward to collapsing in the dirt somewhere for a good nights sleep.
