I'm currently running Hoske replicas without baffles and both myself and my bike love them. After running stock cigars for years, and numerous close calls with people who claimed they didn't hear or see me, I decided louder might be better for me. I ride almost everyday sharing the road with drivers who are unfamiliar with the cars they are operating and the roads they are driving on. For me, loud pipes have been almost as important as having good brakes!
Selective noise. It has always worked for me.

Rob, are you comparing loud horns with loud pipes?

I am offering them as an alternative that suits both needs.

Loud horns are used selectivily, but pipes are incessant and inconsiderate.

How does that old saying go ? you can make some of the people happy , some of the time , but not all of the people happy , all of the time. I think load pipes is a relative term that applies to the one listening. I have heard comments from BMW riders that think that one decibel above the stock sewing machine level is just plain ignorance, and others that like a tad of growl from their Hoskes. I myself like a small amount of engine grr but cannot stand when i hear Harley's or any bike with straight pipes making noise screaming look at me IMHO

Wrong, the Hoske, with baffles, is still very loud.

Its not a matter of who likes what. It is about consideration. Not to mention the laws. I have always had a hard time understanding how one person can impose on another in such an intrusive way. Reminds me of a boom boom car around midnight.

My neighbor sometimes plays music very loudly. It wouldn't matter if he played my favorite music, I don't want to hear it.

Even with my very quiet BMW, I would cut the engine 1/2 block from my apartment and coast in if it was 9 pm or later. I was only 21 at the time too.

My preference would be 10 db below the stock mufflers.

When I first thought about a motorcycle, it was for practical reasons, not the fun of riding. I got that later. First consideration was reliability. BMW was obviously way ahead of the fare in the early 60s. Second was the quiet exhaust sound.

Soon, when we are all riding electric bikes, loud horns will be in vogue for sure.

That and downloadable synthesized exhaust burbles.

Actually, it's:
You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.

And Duane hardly ever....
