checking overshift

R27 gearbox.
I'm swapping-in /2 solo gears and haven't disturbed the selector mechanism, which seems to work well.

All the manuals I have mention checking the overshift between the pawl and detent notches but they're otherwise vague regarding how to go about doing this.
CycleWorks instructions mention checking 1st and 4th gear overshift travel...

So, do I check for 1mm gap at over-rotation 1) below 1st and 2) above 4th with the shift lever deflected appropriately, or...?

I don't have an answer but I would like to hear how your new ratios work out on the road....... I assume that you are swapping out 1st and 2nd gears.

Yes, actually all the gears plus the intermediate shaft.
I'll be sure to post the results eventually. Not sure how well this will work as the FD is 25/6.

I still need to assemble the engine. It has 1mm shaved off the cylinder and a CycleWorks lightened flywheel.

What are you whining about? You've got 1/3 more horsepower at the rear wheel than BMW claimed at the crank for the R27.

Edit: actually, you've got almost as much HP at the rear wheel as my R50/2 had at the crank.

^not mine, sadly^

but I do hope to launch faster than a semi and power all the way across the intersection before grabbing second gear.
These gears may be my Holy Grail
