George of Bethanga has asked me to start a thread on his behalf. English is his third language, and while he can talk the leg off an iron pot, and often does, writing is not his thing. Anyway, here is the problem ...
The bike is a 77 R100s, and the gearbox broke. The middle gear on the intermediate shaft lost some dogs and he is looking for a replacement. It seems these are No Longer Available, either in the form of a complete assembly or as an individual gear.
So, can anyone provide a solution? Perhaps somebody has an inexpensive used box with some other problem, or has a collection of gearbox guts, or knows somebody who does. All useful advice and inspired thread degradation appreciated.

I was given a free Yamaha XS650. Jumped out of second gear. Because it was free, i felt like spending zero money to fix it.
So, I pulled the gearbox apart, and welded up both the shift dogs (which were worn and rounded) and the shift forks, whose bearing surface was warn from the owner putting pressure on the shift lever to keep it in second gear. Welded up, ground down, polished a bit, and reassembled. worked fine for ~10K miles, when it was crashed and destroyed by a "friend."
I am not sure whether this would work with the BMW gears, as they are formed from a powdered-metallurgy process. Might be worth a shot.

What kind of rod did you use? You would want something hard, but tough.
Even if it has a low chance of success, I'd still see it as reasonable to attempt if one has lots more time than money.

It would introduce the chance of catastrophic failure, which could seize the tranny.
