Well I am back home already sipping wine. Had a good run down on Friday. Arrived at the hut about 4:30pm to be greeted by Bob. Steve, Charlie, Pete and Jeff all showed up a minute behind me.

The bikes were well catered for

I don't know who he was but he pulled something heavy off his bike and got straight to work. Are you even allowed to do this?

A wonderful evening of fireside bullshitting followed. All over too soon!. Woke, packed, said the farewells and headed for home ..



That was the best of it. The rest was pretty dreary. The cloud cover didn't let up, 600km of smeared visor and greasy roads. Would have loved just a bit of sunshine. I left my run a bit late too, had a wallaby moment on the Obley Road just on dark. Bloody thing, I hit the brakes, could have kicked its tail. After that, I sat on 80km/hr. got blinded by oncoming farmers that don't know what side of the road is theirs. The last half hour seemed to go on forever.

Jeff, Charlie, Pete and Bob were mellowing at the hut for another day. Steve had a wet ride back to Melbourne. How was it Steve? And Grant, how was your 1000km day?

Nice read and photo's Mal, glad you got down and then back home considering the return trip weather was not the best.

yes the 1000km day trip on the special "K" went without a hicup, well 955kms to be precise, had a great run up to Albury with SteveD along the usual back roads and twisty black stuff, found a warm coffee shop with large open fireplace at Mansfield for a 30 minute break and then a couple of hours later was greeted with handshakes and smiles at Charlies place and then a delicious hamburger was placed in our hands for lunch on arrival.
Shortly after I had fuelled up after the others set off for the hut up in the hills and was out on the Hume free way for the run home, 120km all the way, past two police cars at different times sitting in the bush with radars pointing at me but they done nothing, musta been after faster fish!!, anyway I put 15litres back in the bike and me a hot coffee at Wallan inbound service center with 279kms reading on the clock from when I left Wadonga and the fuel light had not come on, so the K has a fairly good range and true to their word like the "reviews" say about this model, it does distance very easily and rather comfortable.
Down thru into the city, over the Bolte bridge, under the tunnel and I was out on the freeway again with an 1hr and 15mins to home, I opened my driveway gates at 7.35pm, approx 12hrs and 35minute after I rode out of them that morning in the fog and I checked the engine oil site glass the next day, minimal usage showing a slight drop in the level which is normal, and btw if any other K1100 owners happen to read this, from the top to bottom of the engine oil site glass the measurement is 120mls with 3.3 litres of total engine oil to the dead centre of the mark on the glass, all good and happy.

Great day it was, always good to get out and about, see the countryside and meet some familiar friendly faces again and next time it must be yours again Mal, oh and btw I hope all is well with the brother inlaw.

Grant and I had a great ride up to Bethanga on dry roads with a clearish sky. There was a nip in the air so that an open fireplace and hot coffee was welcome when it came.

We just missed the biggest bit of roadkill I've ever seen. It was a huge deer which we suspect had just been shot and run away only to collapse over the cutting onto the road. A couple of hounds were all over it when Grant made the corner, but they were out of my sight a few seconds latter. My immediate thought was that it was the biggest and weirdest looking 'roo I'd ever seen. We saw another roadkill deer later in the day too. First time in my memory. Maybe we have a plague of them too?

Pete and I made it back to Bethanga at 3:30 this arvo. We went the pretty way, along the river road. Stopped for a beer at Jingellic and then did the 58kms of dirt to the Wymah Ferry. Very nice it was, with all that sunshine.
It rained all Saturday at the hut, but a strange tall thin man gave us a bunch of excellent firewood to burn. A ranger was sighted on Sunday morning. He appeared to be shielding his face from anything that might be out of place in his universe.
Bob headed off around 10-ish in full sun, heading for Naranderra, and Jeff, Pete and I headed off when we were good and ready a bit later. The dance floor and verandahs were swept clean, also by a strange tall thin man. The roads were almost dry by the time we got to Khancoban. Jeff headed off towards Albury, thinking there may be something that needed doing with a mother somewhere or other. Pete and I had a spectacular easy ride in perfect weather.
Mal and Steve - bloody good that you made it home safely, but a pity you had to do it on such a day.
Grant, well done getting your 955kms into 12.5 hours. It seems you are pleased with the Special K.

Looks like great times guys. Sorry to miss but not possible this time.

Obey road at dusk is a killer Mal. I did that commute 3 times a week for 12 months so well aware of those little Marsupials.

Steve D. Appreciate your dismay at not getting a call but a reunion of four high school mates and two days to do it in meant no side trips between flights. Stayed in CBD and high jinx we're had. Melbourne is one beautiful city. Maybe next time mate.

Top company, top food and beverages etc, etc.
The hut was at times an island in a sea of rain and low cloud. absolutely comfortable.




I didn't think the skinny bloke was that strange? Or skinny.
