battery quit

Post by richard t »

wife's R75/6 battery died, dead setting in the shop, I road it 2 weeks ago, no problem then. It was a o'rielys AGM I installed just before the spring rally in 2007.
Anybody used a Duracell battery in their bike? batterys Plus has them in stock to fit the bike.

Sounds like you had a good long run with the old battery going on 7 years old. I'd stick with that one if you can still get it. Don't know about the Duracell. My RS battery, el Home Depot variety, lasted about three years. The bike sat for a few months. It was slow charged over night. Lasted several more months. Sat a week, then needed a charge. It was flat dead a week later. I put in another riding mower battery for stop-gap to get out on the road right away.

I'd say you got exemplary service out of that product. You expect better?
Which battery is that? Sorry, I don't know about Duracells. But I am interested in your old battery.

I installed a Deka Powersports not long before the first Oz Boxerworkers rally at ME109's place in 2008. It's still going strong, but I believe this style can just up and carck it without notice. The Deka is a smaller, easier fit and had been great. They're much cheaper than the Odyssey which seems to also receive accolades.

You need to send the battery back for warranty. It lasted way too long and had to be defective. Have them send you one that only lasts the usual 4-5 years. Don't put up with faulty products.

I just put a Duracell in my '84 RT. Not the cheapest solution, but I won't bother with checking/adjusting cell water levels, I hate having vent tubes belching acid onto my exhaust chrome, and I've gotten 6-8 years out of other AGM batteries despite the hand-wringing some do about the compatibility of the battery design with the airheads' charging systems. I'll plan to let you know how it went in 2020.

:?: Seriously Richard, which AGM from O'Reily was it? Make and model? It wouldn't hurt to know of a quality option to the common batteries available. :?:

Steve, that Deka Powersports is an Absorbed Glass Mat battery. It will not "just up and carck". I think it will act just like the flooded lead acid battery of the past.

The battery is a super start (O'rielys store brand). No is ETX 16L. It's rated 325 CCA. The other /6 has same battery but it's 5yrs old.
