It has been a few years, but if I remember (big ifJeff in W.C. wrote:How about needing to remove the engine--or at least the oil pan to remove the side stand. The local guru's here say the motor needs to come out.No wonder why very few people ever service the side stand.

I supported the engine, removed the front engine mount bolt, and wiggled/tapped out the spacer/spring-holder (#6). I might have levered the frame away from the engine slightly to release its grip on the spacer.
The stand slides off the pin (#11) which is embedded in the frame. Again I might have had to lift the front of the engine a little to allow clearance for the stand to slide off.
I put the spacer (#6) back in, re-installed the front mounting bolt, and best of all - installed a Surefoot sidestand.
