uneven rear brake pad wear
Just sorting out a new to me 98 R1100 R and I noticed that the inside pad is much more worn than the outer. I looked in my manual and see that this caliper "floats on 2 shafts. is this kind of wear normal or is something "sticking" ? Also noticed that the rear rotor has some significant grooving. time for a new rotor? can it be turned?
Re: uneven rear brake pad wear
It's most likely that one of the pistons in the caliper is sticking, or the caliper is not centered on the rotor. Sticking is usually caused by not flushing the old brake fluid out often enough. When was the last time you bled your rear brakes ?
Machine shops typically won't turn these types of rotors because they're so thin. I highly suggest an EBC rotor and a set of EBC pads be installed. That's an easy home task.
