Front snowflake bearing 1982 R100

bit of play,going to replace bearings, any advice? which includes a breakdown pic of the shaft with all bits on it,I have a factory manual but can not find it.

It may just need the pre-load adjusting but inspection, clean and re-grease before hand is the minimum that should be done. There is no short and quick guidance on how to do this. First thing to do is to verify that you have steel bearing seats in your cast wheels. You can easily do this with a magnet. The reason is that the early, all-aluminum wheels have a MUCH different bearing replacement procedure.
After 20 years as a professional bike mechanic and 30 years as an engineer I know just enough to be dangerous !
