Hello all,
I'm wondering if any of you have any experiences with using aftermarket wiring harnesses on your airheads. My 1987 R80RT is having issues and losing voltage somewhere in the wiring harness and I'm thinking about replacing the whole harness to mitigate future problems. Some old timers have told me to definitely NOT use aftermarket ANYTHING for my airhead but the chassis wiring harness shown here (https://www.euromotoelectrics.com/produ ... m?CartID=1) looks pretty legit and is literally half the price of the original from BMW.
Any thoughts, experiences, or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Aftermarket Wiring Harnesses
Have you done any testing of parasitic drain? The clock?
EME sell good products, and I've not read of any complaints about wiring.
How long is the battery lasting after charging?
Are you monitoring voltage drop with a multimetre over days?
Have you monitored voltage drop with the battery disconnected?

I fitted a EME harness to my R80 G/S and didnt even realize it was not a BMW PART - quality and function was perfect.
It is probably made by the same folks who currently supply BMW - they don't necessarily source spare parts from the OE supplier.
But have a good look at the OEM parts lists, on the G/S the main loom is only a small part of the total wiring required, and quite a bit of the rest is connected to expensive switches , so a total rewire can cost 2/3 times or more the base loom price!
