'56 Ford / Mitsubishi diesel

Post by old R90 guy »

We were in Cuba last week and saw a lot of Urals - at least I thought they were Urals but was corrected by a fellow traveller who said they were Dnepirs. (fellow traveller was a former officer in a Ballistic Missile Sub in the Soviet navy - you meet all kinds in Cuban bars) Anyway, the coolest car I saw was a '56 ford Customline with a Mitz diesel. The owner/builder had adapted a Mitz 5-speed to the original Ford column shifter. Under the hood it was incredibly neat, you would have sworn it was factory. No real surprise tho, the owner/builder was a cosmetic surgeon in his day job.

Cosmetic surgery in Cuba - that is what surprises me. But I am pretty naive.

I think he works on severe burn victims, cleft palates etc., probably not too many tummy tucks or boob jobs. I've been told that cosmetic dentistry is covered by their government run health plan, though. As far as weed is concerned, I hear that the government has a dim view of the exotic vegetable business, but that is information that I've avoided learning on a first-hand basis.
It IS a great place to visit - we've been there 20-odd times, and see something different each visit. Saw Hemingway's home last visit, for example.
