air filters

Post by michael »

Is there an after market air filter for an 85 R80? One that can be found at an auto parts store.

The short answer is "I seriously doubt it", I order the filters for my /5 2 at a time from Hucky.

Try cross-referencing the part number with a MANN or MAHLE filter list. The part number ought to be on it somewhere.
NAPA just might list one, too.

I'd be surprised if they had it in stock.

My local store keeps stuff for 60's vw's...so there are some surprizes still out there.
(1968 VW oil pressure switch fits-up nice on most 70's bikes, for instance. Also hydraulic-operated brake-light switch: VW '69-'75)

Maybe for a '78 or earlier.
The later bike filters are sorta square...like an early VW Rabbit (?)

Motobins sell an almost exact copy, but the lettering isn't identical. They're a bit cheaper.

Then of course there's K&N. Not everyones cup of the proverbial. ;)

Can they be got from the local auto shop? Doubt it, though a K&N might be available if ordered. If I get parts from Motobins, I'll often get an air filter too.

I have read on this very forum that velocity stacks with a Shure SM58 windsock straddling them seem to be as good as any..

They probably won't fit for this application, they just happen to fit perfectly over the Amal 930 velocity stacks.
