I've run out of my one piece BMW filters. I picked up one that is jointed in the middle, and connects together with rubber(ish) fittings. There has to be less filtering media, and more constriction of oil flow. Are these filters a problem?
I must know. Tell me the whole truth, nothing but the truth:

Re: jointed filters
They are less likely to crush under pressure. That could be a good thing. Who knows. Get a pre-'70.
Re: jointed filters
I've been using the hinged filters for for a few years now and nothing has come unhinged.

They're all I've ever used.
Check for compatibility tho', the bendies were mostly made for Bikes with fairings and oil thermostats. I may be wrong.....

They make bendies in both long and short versions.ME 109 wrote:They're all I've ever used.

Re: jointed filters
Jointed filters might be like filtered joints. Not quite as effective.

Just my thoughts. I think it's some kind of conspiracy.Airbear wrote:Jointed filters might be like filtered joints. Not quite as effective.

Re: jointed filters
Used them exclusively on my RS.
I've spent most of my money on women, motorcycles, and beer.
The rest of it I just wasted.

Re: jointed filters
hi to all . have been using the hinged filters feels like nearly forever. personally there easier to fit than the straight type especially when i had my 90/6 with krauser crash bars fitted. actually still have one straight filter left in my archives parts box !

Re: jointed filters
Both will fit/work OK IF they are the right size for your bike.
2-Piece filters make it easier to install if you have protection bars, farings, oil coolers, etc.
One-piece filters are a PITA to install iwth an RS faring and impossible (for me, at least) with an oil cooler.
