Adding a solo Denfeld saddle seat + rack

Post by jjwithers »

I started to ditch comfort for style and add a saddle Denfeld seat to my R60/2 and was halted once I realized the tank had to come off.
That fuel line crossover is a horrible design. I had to stop due to a nearly full tank of gas, and that much gas wouldn't fit in my gas can.

Before i put the regular seat back on, I realized that the rear rack I purchased from Bob's BMW sits directly on the rear fender and the side arms do not match up with the bolts near the upper shock. Yes, i thought it was backwards and neither way fit properly.
Is the rack supposed to make contact with the fender? I can see the paint coming off real quick...
and I do NOT want to drill extra holes in the fender for the side brackets.

I started to piece together the saddle seat and realized that the when I assemble the 'T' bracket to the seat, the single bolt bracket under the front of the seat doesn't sit properly as well. Please see the photo. The right angles of the bolt bracket to not meet at right angles of the seat and 'T' bracket. That doesn't feel correct. Is it just something you muscle through and tighten it anyway?

I had the same exact thing when I got a replacement solo seat from Vech. I posted on another forum and Vech said to just loosen things up and it will fit fine. Well, it didn't. So, I went to the local Big Box hardware store and found something that I could fashion to work. Only problem was that it sat up in front just a bit much, and caused problems with, ahem, my "boys" during longer rides. Raising the rear attachment wasn't an option...not an easy one anyway. So, with the help of a friend, I found a piece of flat steel which we heated up and bent into the appropriate shape. I've since trimmed it to size and drilled the holes. A test fit shows it to be OK...maybe have to hit it with a rat-tailed file.

I'd be interested to hear if you find there is another Z-bracket...I didn't think there was.

There doesn't look like there is much room left to modify my Z bracket... so I think I might have to modify the 'T' bracket by extending the hole closer to the front of the bracket. Or I could probably heat up the 'Z' bracket and stretch it out...

Otherwise, it is off to my local welder/fabricating shop. I don't want to have to pay the shop to make something that I already paid for and should be the correct size.

As for your rear rack, you may have a rack for a single. R26 and R27s shocks are canted further forward than on a twin resulting in the need for different racks.
