Bike crash - - first in a long while

Had an accident last Monday afternoon on the 1200GS - - first one since 1966 when two retired Army Colonels ran me and my Honda 450 off the road with their Rambler American. Picture perfect day up in the mountains so I decided to go for an afternoon ride. Came to a 4-way stop about five miles from home and, to make the story short, a Prius ran into me as I was crossing the intersection. He "never saw me" but I saw him coming and tried to get out of his way but didn't quite make it. He caught my right rear with his right front. I was totally unhurt but the bike wasn't. The most serious part of the damage is to the rear sub-frame. I'm thinking it needs to be replaced and that part alone is listed at $2,418.19. When all the smoke clears, I'm thinking the bike will be totaled. Picked up the Accident Report today - - it shows the other party as "failure to yield" and me as "non-contributory" which tracks the info given to the investigating officer but of course I really wanted him to get it straight in the Report. Anyway, I could easily have come out on the short end and I'm counting myself lucky. I can do without another one of these for the NEXT forty-eight years.

Bummer about the crash, but glad you are OK. Call the guys at Beemer Boneyard about parts...

Wow, the entire frame for my CBR250R only costs $238 ($360 retail)!

Well, the bike was totaled as I suspected it would be after I saw the repair estimate. The other guy's insurance company caved as soon as they got a copy of the Accident Report and were contacted by my company. Really didn't have to negotiate/argue very much at all with them. They paid me about $1K over NADA/KBB high retail, State sales tax on an equivalent bike, title fee on a replacement bike, and what I spent for the repair estimate. Before the bike went away, I stripped off all the aftermarket stuff including the Jesse racks and I kept the Odyssey sidecases which were not on the bike at the time of the wreck. No one cared. It will go to auction somewhere and someone will get a beautiful drivetrain and a bunch of other stuff for probably next to nothing. I felt very little emotion at all as the bike was loaded on the flatbed in my driveway. Now, if it had been my /5 that I bought on my 24th birthday in 1971, it would have been a different story...
