Master Cylinder

Can anyone tell me when BMW started mounting the master cylinder on the handlebars? Thanks!

From the 1981 models on...after September 1980.

Trying to cross reference these dates from the usual parts fiche, looking under "brakes" the realoem and max fiche show the under tank setup, to 9/80.
You need to look at the "steering" section.

fantastic! Thanks for the quick reply! The reason I ask is because I am chaning the original front end to something with a Nissin brake assembly and need to be able to activate it.
I have a 1978 R80 with the cable only coming out of the handlebar housing, is there a way to add this master cylinder to the existing assembly or do I just need to find the whole assembly with the master cylinder on the bars and eliminate the under tank master cylinder? Any advice is appreciated!

Yep. It's not something that's never been done before. Usually best to source a 13mm mc from a monolever.
