How to tell clutch wear?

Post by jjwithers »

I have about 4 or 5 used clutch assemblies sitting around. Some are /5, others are /6.
I'm putting together a R75/5 mostly from spare parts and trying not to spend money if I don't have to.

How can you tell how much life is left on a clutch? Can you gauge the thickness of the pressure plate?
If so, what is a good vs worn amount?
Or is it the general surface of the pressure plate being worn somehow?

Is it safe to reuse the spring, pressure plate and compression ring?

Just received my new clutch spring for my R75 from Motorworks today. It is 1mm higher (18.5mm) than my old failing spring (17.5mm).
I couldnt measure the pressure and cover plates but from Duanes site I gather the smoother the more contact area.

cheers

If you measure the disc thickness the minimum is 4.5mm.

Douph! I should have checked Duane's site first.

Thanks for the helpful info and measurements.

I would put a straight edge across the pressure plate to see how flat it is.
