Re: /6 upgrades
Sorry Oldbmwmc for continuing a bit of thread drift, but having put /5 switchgear on my G/S (due to using different throttle and clutch the /5 switches seemed a simple and appropriate option) the starter button is a concern. On my 74 90/6 I always have that same problem with the starter button hitti...

Re: Might I have seized the motor?
I hope it is better than it sounds. Spark plugs out and pushing in fifth sounds like the first port of call. not quite light reading for you, but this 100GS was 'idled' with the choke on, at around 4000rpm, for 45 minutes before before things went belly-up. http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?...

Re: curious 1974 bmw r90/6
I deleted my post from the other thread, and will repost it here, Not sure about the crossover date with the turn signals. The engine stuff I am aware of happened around April 1975 I think. You can enter your VIN number here and see what year and month it was made, (there are a few different sites l...

Re: its shopping time for the R90
Hi 2valve, like the others said, a parts list might help. What are you after? Seeing as though you are in Australia, there are some second hand sources available. Melbourne has a good airhead parts guy who posts stuff (PM on it's way). I've got a fair few R90 bits and bobs. Like already mentioned se...

Re: How long has she got Doc?
Hey Jeff, there is of course the alternative to the shimming plate, the squashing of something like some soft flux cored soldering wire- Jörgs page goes into it. That was the way I was going to go. If you can't ride it, maybe you should just open it up, then order your parts after...? at least it wi...

Re: How long has she got Doc?
That was my take on it too Charlie. Seems eminently doable. But then I got talked out of it. I'm not trying to talk you two out of it, I'm just saying. I was told it is not quite as easy as simply 'following the instructions', that there are a few 'tricks' to getting it right. I'll be sending mine u...

Re: How long has she got Doc?
no probs Charlie, If Jeff doesn't want the bearing set they are yours. And yes, I agree with you, that 6th bearing that 'doesn't normally need replacing'- I'd do it anyway too, that is why I got that set. Regarding having a go at your 74 kickstart box- you might as well open it up! Don't forget that...

Re: How long has she got Doc?
Hi Jeff, no probs, I'll probably hold on to these bearings for a few months more until after I move house, then think about selling them on. Hopefully you've caught it in time before too much damage was done and bearings is all they need! If you read Jörgs page there are links down the bottom that t...

Re: How long has she got Doc?
Hey Jeff, If you decide to rebuild it yourself I've got a gearbox bearing kit from motobins I need to sell. Whatever the cheapest price you can get it for- I'll beat it! :D I was going to try my G/S box myself but I've been convinced otherwise... I'm going to hand mine over to Paul Rooney to do, and...
