Re: Today in the shed you did...
My brother in law came by with some old Airhead parts he didn't need anymore, so I spent the morning adding a brand new brake rod to my R90s. It was nice to take it all apart, clean and grease all the linkages. Now it's good for another 25 or 30k.

Re: Need clarification about Generator Light necessity
As the others have mentioned, the GEN light is essential to the circuit. It is why when you turn on the ignition on an Airhead, you first make sure the GEN light comes on. When my group of buddies were all riding Airheads years ago, one of the bikes stopped charging and we figured out the GEN bulb h...

Re: Oil filter filling
I've just seen some solid evidence that pre-filling a new oil filter measurably reduces particles compared to a dry filter at start up. Our airhead filters slide in sideways makes pre-filling impossible. I would like to know if you soak your filters before insertion. Or? In all honesty, I think you...

Re: Starter won't engage - R90/6
Its a matter of troubleshooting. If you press the starter button, does the starter relay engage? (Click heard?) If you press the starter button, are you getting 12vdc at the black starter solenoid wire? That's the signal from the starter relay that pulls in the LARGE solenoid inside the starter to s...

Re: Pre load Gear changing
40+ years riding Airheads and Oilheads. I've found that light pressure on the lever AND at the right RPM, can make nearly imperceptible and smooth shifts. If I'm lazy and pull the clutch, let the RPM's drop and move the lever, then the gearbox makes some amazing sounds. :( It's all a matter of timin...

Re: Failed Diode board replacement
Stay with the oem style at least. As SteveD points out, the Thunderchild is an excellent replacement. I've had one on my R90s for twenty years with zero issues.

Re: New style rear main oil seal
Many years ago I installed the latest seal on my '74 R90s. I remember heating the seal in warm engine oil and then installing it on the flywheel flange to sit over night. Then install as normal.

Re: Oil Leak at head gasket
Quick follow up: I made a jig myself and got the repair done last weekend. Verified proper oil flow and buttoned everything up and went for a nice 35 mile ride with no issues. I admit to refining my final torque to 22 ft. lbs. compared to 25 and I'll use that value going forward with my R90s and oth...

Re: Oil Leak at head gasket
I believe you're right Kurt. I do have a machinist buddy that's going to see if he can make a jig, based on my measurements, so hopefully, that will work. But still looking for the official jig for rent if anyone knows a source.

Re: Oil Leak at head gasket
I've decided that I want to use a jig for this job, so if anyone has access to one for rent, I would be very appreciative. Brook Reams mentions that this was available from "Northwoods Airheads" but their website is no longer. Brook Reams info on performing the repair. https://brook.reams....
