Now you can clamp the spindle with a spindle clamp to unscrew the top eye mount. You need to heat it so ...

Re: Pieces of something in my oil sump. 1985 BMW R80RT
I was hearing a clicking noise from one of my engine heads, so, at the suggestion of my friend, who has much more experience with BMW bikes, we took off the oil sump to see if there was a potential clog. Upon taking it off, there was a lot of blue goo that the previous owner had used to secure the ...

Agreed looks like the bottom of a cylinder, I hate it when people put so much gasket goo on joints, if it's blue it could well be Hylomar.

Re: Cly head re trnsioning
Thank you gentlemen for your expert advise. have done less than 120 miles on it since the rebuild so I will do a bit more before re tensioning the heads and adjusting the valve clearances. As for my torque wrench it's spot on as we have calibration equipment at the Polytechnic where I work. Would ha...

Re: over size piston rings
If fitting std rings in old bores you need to check the gap with the rings as close as you can to the bottom of the bore and gap them accordingly. Sorry, I have to query that. You need to check the gap in the swept part of the bore. In use, the rings don't get anywhere near the bottom of the bore w...

Re: over size piston rings
Putting oversize rings in a standard bore is a no no, first thing to remember is that most of the bore wear is in the top third of the bore and you will see a lip at the top of the bore that will prodonently be on the thrust side of the piston. If fitting std rings in old bores you need to check the...

Re: Oil Leak
I have a '74 R90 and recently had some oil leaks, so I went in and replaced the rear main seal, oil pump cover w/ new o-ring and trans input shaft seal. I updated the oil pump cover to the latest style with the hex bolts as recommended. I start the bike up yesterday and there's a fairly solid strea...

Re: newby
Yes you can just take a key that fits if you have one to a locksmith and they should be able to make a copy, I did the same for my 1978 R80/7.
