Throttle lock /cruise control for an R80 ?

Post by Sibbo »

About 5 years ago i chopped off my right thumb ...a mistake I'm told ! :D I had it reattached but all is not perfect .I get cramps in my right hand that I didn't used to get ,sometimes it goes numb from having to maintain a fixed position ,as it does on a long ride .

Does anyone know of a throttle lock that i could fit or fabricate, something that would allow me to just rest my hand on top of the grip for a while while riding ?

You might have one already. Have a look under the throttle housing for a large screw in bolt. Otherwise, there is a covered recess there for the bolt.

I was looking at a "Crampbuster" today, it just slips onto the grip and you use your palm on it.

I have the throttle lock screw in Steve's pic below. They work very well and the throttle can still be used almost normally.
I don't have an American coin like Steve has tho' :(

Munich Motorcycles has them Image for $18.

The Throttle Rocker I use allows me to control the throttle without having to always have my hand wrapped around the twist grip. So in other words my hand is flat and I can still open and close the throttle. Great for long distances.

I do have a throttle stop screw fitted. I use it when i warm the bike up on cold start ups. Lock the throttle just off idle. This helps as I only run one choke. I find with the throttle screw that I can not use it when I have a tank bag fitted as I have to reach over with my other hand to tighten it.

Mine is left on all the time.

So this would mean that you ride with it screwed in so that you have to push the throttle closed by hand???

I have one of those and it is good ,although it seems to need constant adjustment .

That screw looks great ! I just checked Tilly and there is a nice hole where there should be a bolt . I'll ring Munich ,it looks as though it might be worth $18 .

Thanks fellas !

I just ordered one ...I'll adjust it to just slightly reduce the return tension ...does that sound OK ?

$18 ..$23.45 posted .
