Allright, who is the wiseass that is making me remove the ENTIRE exhaust system to change the centerstand?, the Germans must still be mad about the War and this is payback!

Now you get to deal with the crapola centerstand bolt set up.Unclviny wrote:Allright, who is the wiseass that is making me remove the ENTIRE exhaust system to change the centerstand?, the Germans must still be mad about the War and this is payback!

A plot to make you destroy the threads on the exhausts on your heads? To make you buy new heads? To find a cylinder stud is stripped in the block? etc

And while you're there, how are the rod bearings?barndeadr80 wrote:A plot to make you destroy the threads on the exhausts on your heads? To make you buy new heads? To find a cylinder stud is stripped in the block? etc
Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world.

If it makes you feel any better, I had to remove the ENTIRE center AND side-stand assembly to change the exhaust on my Oilhead.
Okay, I know, it didn't make you feel any better...

Of course you'll want to change the main seal, just to be sure, and... and... hey how did I end up with a bare frame surrounded by parts? Oh well, might as well paint it while everything is off.melville wrote:And while you're there, how are the rod bearings?barndeadr80 wrote:A plot to make you destroy the threads on the exhausts on your heads? I have to remove my entire exhaust system to change my oil filter. Stupid rear balance pipe!

Re: BMW has a better idea!
Tomorrow is "centerstand day", I got the widened, stock-unit with 2 extra feet on it so it should not be "tippy" anymore (with new bolts, bushings and washers standing-by).
Today's deal was installing the new connector in the headlight bucket and swapping to LED turn signals, I had about 90% success. The bike runs (always a good sign) but regardless of which turn I signal for all 4 turn signals flash!, so I closed up the garage for the night (it's Rum and coke and a schematic for me tonight).

How about needing to remove the engine--or at least the oil pan to remove the side stand. The local guru's here say the motor needs to come out. No wonder why very few people ever service the side stand.Unclviny wrote:Allright, who is the wiseass that is making me remove the ENTIRE exhaust system to change the centerstand?, the Germans must still be mad about the War and this is payback!

My G/S has a sump extension, so that has to come off too.
I just fitted a Brown side stand to my R75/7 - if anyone knows how to remove the OEM stand without removing the engine or using an angle grinder let us know!
