Steve
It's what's known in Blighty as a R100SRS, allegedly a cancelled Australian police bike order, very low numbers. If genuine it will have an Australian type approval plate riveted on top of the swinging arm under the battery tray.
Basically a 78 RS motorsport with an S fairing, in addition to the standard dark blue seat the SRS also came with crash bars, hazards & blue brake lines as std. The vin no. will also show up on realoem etc as a RS not an S.
One of only a couple of factory "special" editions that are anything more than a paint job & are not dead easy to replicate imho, the SRS has the type approval plate & RS motor & the 1980 BMW R100S Exclusive Sport which had polished fork legs & bevel box.
Please explain?
Re: Please explain?
The dash panel is not a normal '78 "S" item, however the engine sure looks '78-ish with the aluminum air cleaner housing. No yellow light switch suggests NA delivery for sure (lights ON all the time) but only the serial numbers will tell for sure.
I have a "'77 RS" that started life as an "S"...a pretty good job of conversion but the seat pan and serial number didn't get changed (I didn't DO it!).
My guess is it started life as an RS and got Essed.
Post serial numbers and someone will tell you for sure.
