Can anyone tell me what this motor is? I have not dismantled it, but based on the intake port size, it looks like an R100.
Motor number is 6242314
Thanks,

Re: motor number
According to this VIN decoder (http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi), that VIN is for an '82 R100RT. You can also measure the cylinder diameter. An R100 has a bore of 94mm or thereabouts.

Re: motor number
Thanks, Steve and Kurt. I was looking more to determine what carbs I need for it, as it came without carbs.

Re: motor number
Just one other question, will a 1970 4 speed transmission bolt up to this motor, or do I need to find a later transmission?
Thanks,
Mike

Re: motor number
I musta put the wrong number in. Kurt's was more accurate.
Carbs should be the big 40mm BING's. 94/40/107-108

Re: motor number
Remember that the clutch pack and input shaft to the transmission changed with the 1981 models. Things will fit but you might have to make changes to the clutch and/or input shaft to the tranny. Then there might be "issues" with the lever arm at the back of the tranny. IMO, I think it's more trouble than it's worth.arbalest wrote:Just one other question, will a 1970 4 speed transmission bolt up to this motor, or do I need to find a later transmission?
