bmw r45 gearbox

hello all i have just joined and am hoping to get a major problem sorted.i have a 1986 r45 and am looking for a new or recoditioned gearbox.that is not where my problem ends as i am living in ireland ,but am willing to pay all costs and shipping.the machine is an electric start and it is killing me not being able to source a box for it . if anyone can help me out it would be great. cheers all,jimmy.

Any 650 post 81 g'box should fit shouldn't it? Maybe even the 80's & 100's boxes too!

Actually, unless I'm badly mistaken, I believe any gearbox from any '81 and later airhead will fit jimmyk's R45.

Only one slight caveat... a box from the later 'Paralever' bikes (R100R, Mystic and 'GS) will have the output oil seal fitted the worng way round. It will still fit... it's otherwise identical... but the output seal should be turned round or replaced.

As you are in Ireland, motobins or motorworks will sell you a fully reconditioned gearbox for around £300.

WOW! That would be a bargain! ($480 USD) I was quoted just under $1000 USD for fully reconditioned from Re-Psycle in Ohio.

Hey jimmyk- where abouts Ireland are you?

On the R45/R65 forum, we have a R65 rider in Drogheda.
