Yes, I was applying that judgement of spectacular amateur work to your painting, so it was meant as a compliment.
Perhaps ironically, I think the fact that an amateur doing such work has to put so many more hours into the project leaves them with a much stronger emotional investment in the project: it's as much about process as product, if not more.
