Yup. I hadn't looked at it from that angle. It's likely that someone sat on the bike with the side stand down.

I think the bend is part of the design to clear the exhaust...

Yup, just went and looked at the stand on my /6 which is identical and has bends in exactly the same points.

What about the ear in the top, could that be worn so the angle somehow gets wrong?

Good point. I checked once on the centre stand and it seems solid. That is, no wobble.

I use a Browns with no problem. I kept the original on as well, on uneven pavement it can be useful.

I found the spare sides stand. It's exactly the same but appears to be a bit beefier.

OK so looks like we've established that your side stand is stock and likely there's nothing wrong with the pivot. It's not like the later style pivot which was prone to spreading the ears and causing the bike to lean. It's still possible that something might be bent up where the stand connects with the engine mount bolt.

I scratch my head to come up with ideas why the bike leans over too much...for your tastes. I have the same stock stand on my /7 and discovered at some point that running the metric tire equivalents for the 3.25/4.00 inch sizes results in the bike standing too upright. The metric tires have a smaller radius so the frame is lower to the ground and that just creates havoc with the geometry. I run only the standard inch-sized tires now, so the lean angle is back. But it's really not much. I'm cautious when I use the side stand and absolutely ensure that the lean is there before I walk away from the bike...to open the garage door for example.

So, the stock setup on my /7 results in a lean of the bike but not much. What could be causing yours to lean so much more? :?:

I never thought about that. The tires were put on just before I bought the bike by the PO. They pretty much look like off road tires (see image) - Dunlop Gold Seal K70. According to the Dunlop site they are also used for dual sport applications. The thickness of the tread could very well account for the extra lean.
