Good pix Rob, especially the dimensions. I was thinking of drawing something similar at lunch during the test match. Cheers.
There's a picture in the first post that confirms the exact latch, with the key code visible when opened.

I have a few other keys from this range and I'll do images of them when I have a few minutes... Probably put them in a .zip file. Not sure if I can attach a zip file here so might have to email... I've also posted these images on the original post.

Thanks Rob and Steve
Would one of you be able to supply me with the dimension indicated in the attached?
My plan is to try and buy a blank from my local locksmith as a starting point and then start whittling away at it to match Rob's 057 photo in the hope that the tolerances are that slack they will make up for my amateurish attempts.

Re: BMW touring panniers 3d key printing.
The length is 18mm. However, only the 5mm tip of the key enters the lock.

The rest of the keyway doesn't need shaping at all. Just the 5mm tip if you can find the correct profiled key blank.
I went to a local locksmith here, who is also a rider, and he couldn't find any blanks to match the three keys I presented to him. He showed me an internet thread discussing these keys where posters were asking for particular numbers. It was www.advrider.com
Key blanks that fit BMW airhead touring case locks.
I've found in my stash an Edmunds C10 key blank (made in Australia) that's been cut for an 065 lock. I don't have a 065 lock to check it. It's likely from 20-30years back. Also a Silca (Italy) HD1 for a 067.
So it's likely there are some blanks out there that have the correct profile to match. Just need to identify them.

Re: BMW touring panniers 3d key printing.
I'm pleased to report I've had some success. A Yale ya27 blank from a locksmith had a similar profile to Rob's 057 key and after some grinding and filing I got it to open both a 057 and 054 lock. Unfortunately the width of the "tab" was a bit thin and snapped off! Fortunately you informed me only the first 5mm counts so I had enough of the key left to have another go. Out of 4x054 locks and 2x057 locks my second attempt fits 5 out of the 6. I'll take that for now.

Unfortunately Bayer don't seem to sell to the UK. When I enter their site, I'm presented with a list of places they do sell to and the UK isn't one of them. Echoes of Brexit I presume.... They only seem to have a few numbers anyway.SteveD wrote: ↑Thu Dec 04, 2025 7:01 am https://www.bayermotor.de/en/search?pag ... W+case+key

Edit:
OK, that's strange, the above happened the first time I went into the site but now I can go to the shipping page and it quotes shipping rate to UK and a lot of other places. Not sure what's going on here but worth checking before you order from them.

The problem is, of course, that each key number will require a different blank.SteveD wrote: ↑Thu Dec 04, 2025 6:52 am The length is 18mm. However, only the 5mm tip of the key enters the lock.

Yep. But...Rob Frankham wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 3:45 am ...The problem is, of course, that each key number will require a different blank.
as it's only the first 5mm that matters it'll be a much easier task to mill the profile. The blank can be made as a solid with the usual precut as that aspect is common to all keys. If it's some 3D print material it might be easy to do with due care.
Some of the keys are flat on one side too so even easier with just the one side to fiddle with.

I envisage having a blank on a drill press with the appropriate width bit and just mill the blank accordingly. Anyhow, that's a current thought. I have a bunch of small bits that should help. The square profile likely easy enough, but the triangular ones may provide another complication.
More talk tomorrow with the guy that's doing the printing. I haven't chatted to him about this since early last week.
